# Caipirinha

Under construction.

Caipirinha is an app for Apple Silicon Macs that runs Windows games with no setup. It creates the Wine bottles, installs Steam for Windows, picks the layer that translates DirectX to Metal (such as DXVK or Apple's D3DMetal) and keeps a log of every run. It needs macOS 14 or later and Rosetta 2, and never redistributes Steam: the official installer comes from Valve. I started Caipirinha in October 2026, in Rust, and I have not published the code yet.

## What does Caipirinha do?

### Your Steam, ready

One button downloads Wine, creates the bottle, installs Steam for Windows and brings in the Mac's Steam account. The library arrives with your games and says which ones run.

### A tweak for each game

Every tested game has a profile that says how it runs on the Mac and which graphics backend to use. Caipirinha applies the profile on its own when you hit play.

### Bottles you can repair

Each bottle is a separate Windows inside the Mac, with the graphics layer you pick, such as DXVK or D3DMetal. Save as is takes a snapshot, and Repair Steam goes back to the latest one without touching the games.

### Diagnostics and logs

It checks the Mac, Rosetta, disk space, runtimes and bottles. Wine and DXVK only come from a list pinned by sha256, and every run leaves a log.

### Play without logging in again

With the Mac's Steam account, Play works without logging in to Steam for Windows. The game opens straight in Wine, and the Mac's Steam shows you as playing and counts the hours. Achievements and cloud saves still need the bottle's Steam.

### Your own Game Porting Toolkit

Apple's license does not let Caipirinha distribute D3DMetal, which translates DirectX 12 to Metal. You download the Game Porting Toolkit for free from Apple's site and pick the .dmg in Settings. Caipirinha copies only what it needs from it.

### Controller or keyboard

The controller's d-pad or the keyboard arrows move focus to the nearest item on screen. A confirms and B goes back, like Enter and Esc. It works on the buttons, the filters and the game list.
